Context/Comments
The State Charity Hospital was completed in 1912. It closed in 1955, having been replaced by the new University Medical Center, and was demolished sometime prior to 1962. Mississippi Baptist Hospital purchased the site in 1964 and later built the new Mississippi Baptist Medical Center at that location, breaking ground in 1972 and completing construction in December 1975.

The Charity Hospital is included in "Jackson (Images of America)" (1998) (p. 48) and "Jackson's North State Street (Images of America)" (2009) (p. 62).
