Context/Comments
A double-pile Greek Revival galleried cottage of brick construction, the Virden-Patton House is significant as one of Jackson's oldest and best preserved Greek Revival residences. The house is also significant for its association with Alexander Virden, an early Jackson merchant and civic leader, and with Brigadier General John W. Patton, Jr., a Jackson native and distinguished military officer during and after World War II.

The Virden-Patton House was individually listed on the National Register on 16 December 1983, and it was later included as a "previously-listed" element (element #3) of a very small National Register district called "Houses at 500, 505, 512, & 513 North State Street," which was listed on 7 November 1995.

The house is included in "Jackson Landmarks" (1982) (pp. 100-101) and "Jackson's North State Street (Images of America)" (2009) (pp. 18, 97). [HABS: MS-47(1936)]
