Context/Comments
A hip-roofed galleried cottage. This house was originally located at 426 Fortification Street, but was moved in the 1910s when North Congress Street was extended north beyond Fortification Street. It was, for a time, the residence of Gov. Robert Lowry, who served as governor from 1882 to 1890. Lowry died, however, in the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. W.M. Buie, at 1702 N. State Street in Jackson on January 19, 1910.

It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 6 October 2005.

This house is included in "Jackson Landmarks" (1982) (pp. 80-81).
