| The Seashore Campground School was established as a private school in 1892. The present building was built circa 1915. It was part of the Seashore Methodist Campground, which was established in the late-nineteenth century by the wealthy New Orleans soap manufacturer and philanthropist, John Henry Keller (who lived in the Hermann House in Biloxi from 1871 to 1908). The property, still in use by the Methodist Church today, was the site of the Annual Camp Meetings of the New Orleans, Mobile, and Seashore district conference. The Seashore Campground School is the oldest remaining structure in the complex. This building was individually listed on the National Register on 18 May 1984, as a component of the "Historic Resources of Biloxi." The former school building is included in "The Buildings of Biloxi" (1976, p. 146; 2000, p. 142; and 2010, p. 142). |
