Granly Historical Foundation formed in 1984 and bought property, cemetery and five acres. Structure originally built by Danish immigrants.
Brief Description
The Granly Danish Lutheran Church is located in northeastern Jackson County, approximately two miles north of Hurley. The building is a one-story, wood-frame, one-bay (WDW) vernacular structure with hipped-roof. Windows are 6/6 wood DHS. The structure is supported by a concrete block pier foundation, clad in clapboard siding, and is sheltered by an asphalt shingle roof. Decorative elements include exposed rafters. Within the same lot and approximately 300 feet west of the primary elevation is the Granly Danish Cemetery, which holds roughly 50 burials and was established at the same time as the church.
Historic Information
The Granly Danish Lutheran Church was constructed in 1936 to serve as the religious meeting house and community center for a Danish colony in Jackson County. The church was used regularly until 1966, when the Danish congregation was dissolved.
