Designed by the architectural firm of Biggs, Weir, Neal & Chastain, this building was built from 1965 to 1967 as the fourth synagogue of Congregation Beth Israel.

This building is mentioned in "Jackson Landmarks" (1982) (p. 111), and it is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p. 269, JM64).

Historic Information
In response to the civil rights activism of Rabbi Perry Nussbaum, the building was bombed by the Ku Klux Klan on 18 September 1967, damaging his office.
