The Raymond Historic District encompasses the downtown area of Raymond around the Town Square and residential areas along East Main Street, Palestine Street, West Main Street, Dupree Street and Port Gibson Street. The district includes public buildings, like the Hinds County Courthouse and the town water tank; religious buildings, such as St. Marks Episcopal Church and the Church of the Nativity; commercial buildings; and, residential structures. The oldest known building in the district, the Keith Press Building, was built in 1830. The district reflects different periods from Raymond’s earliest days through the post-WWII era. Buildings in the district were constructed in many styles illustrating changing tastes over time, with Federal, Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Italianate, Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival and Bungalow/Craftsman found in the district. David Preziosi, Executive Director of the Mississippi Heritage Trust, wrote the National Register nomination. |
