Comments:
The Tunica Historic District visually illustrates seventy-five years of growth and development of commercial and residential neighborhoods and the construction of significant civic and religious buildings. Although the homes in the district represent many forms and styles of architecture, the Henderson-Magnum House, built around 1924 in the Beaux Arts style, stands out. The commercial development of Tunica in the early years of the 20th century is amply illustrated by the still-active business corridor centered on Main Street and Edwards Avenue. Civic improvements are represented by the Tunica County Courthouse, built in the Beaux Arts style in 1922-23. The district includes four church buildings which exemplify styles used in religious architecture in the first half of the twentieth century. The National Register nomination was written by Gene and Linda Ford, consultants, and Richard J. Cawthon, Chief Architectural Historian, MDAH.
