Named for George W. Brumfield, who was principal of the "colored public schools" in Natchez for more than 25 years, this building was built in 1925 as a "colored" public school for grades 1-12, and it served as a school for African Americans for many years. After desegregation it served for a time as a pre-school before being permanently closed in 1990. It was converted to low-income apartments in 1994. This building was listed on the National Register on 21 October 1993. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 7 January 1993. |
