Context/Comments
Before it burned in 2016, the I.N. Ellis house was the best example of the Queen Anne style in Hazlehurst and one of the best in Copiah County. Built from a design created by architect George F. Barber, this house was built in 1890 for Isaac Newton Ellis, who was one of the foremost businessmen in Copiah County at that time.

The I.N. Ellis House was individually listed on the National Register on 2 November 1987, and it was later included as a previously-listed element (element #64) in the Hazlehurst Historic District, which was placed on the National Register on 5 November 1998.

The house was completely destroyed by a fire in February 2016. (A new house was subsequently built on its site.)

It is included in "Victorian Houses of Mississippi" (2005) (p. 83).

Brief Description
The steeply pitched hipped roof, paneled chimneys, projecting bays, corner tower, shingled surfaces, wraparound porch with corner pavilion, balconies, spindlework, and Palladian window combined to create an excellent example of domestic Queen Anne architecture.
