Built in 1910, the old Rockport Bridge over the Pearl River consisted of two Pennsylvania through truss spans. It collapsed in February 1999. By 2004 it had been replaced by a new concrete deck bridge at the same location. The old bridge had been designated a Mississippi Landmark on 4 August 1987, and it had been listed on the National Register on 16 November 1988, as one of the components of the "Historic Bridges of Mississippi," a thematic group nomination prepared by Jack Elliott, historical archaeologist of MDAH. After its collapse, it was delisted from the National Register on 15 December 1999. It was delisted from Mississippi Landmark status on 8 October 2010. |
