Context/Comments
The former Elks lodge hall in Greenville is a monumental Neoclassical Revival building that was built in 1907. It is distinctive among Mississippi’s Neoclassical Revival buildings in that it is built of cast concrete blocks. An addition to east was added in 1971.

This building is listed on the National Register as a contributing element (element #100) in the the enlarged Greenville Commercial Historic District (Boundary Increase 1). It was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 2002.

It is pictured in "Musing through Towns in Mississippi" (1999) (p. 38).

Historic Information
A comment in the Manufacturer's Record of August 6, 1903 states: "Greenville, Miss.--Lodge Building. P.H. Weathers of Jackson, Miss., preparing plans for Elks' Home at Greenville." Because of the four-year gap between this notation and the completion of the building, it is unclear whether these plans were for the current building or if Weathers' plans were passed over in favor of some other architect's.
