Built in 1876, the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton is a rare surviving example in Mississippi of a Reconstruction Era county courthouse. The building itself and the courthouse square on which it is located are remarkably little-changed from their appearance in the late nineteenth century. It is listed on the National Register as a contributing element of the Carrollton Historic District, which was placed on the Register in 1978. The building was designated a Mississippi Landmark in 1986. This building is included in "Old Homes of Mississippi, Volume II: Columbus and the North" (1977) (p. 137) and "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.95, YB47). |
