Designed by architects N.W. Overstreet nd A.H. Town of Jackson, the gymnasium building at the Shaw Consolidated School was built by the WPA in 1940.

It was listed on the National Register in 2017 as a part of the Shaw Consolidated School complex. The Shaw Consolidated School complex was designated as a Mississippi Landmark in 2016.
