This imposing Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse, built in 1891, is distinctive in Mississippi for its stone construction. Designed by McDonald Brothers of Louisville, Kentucky, it is similar in appearance to the Washington County Courthouse in Salem, Indiana (1888), which was also by McDonald Brothers. The courthouse in Greenville was altered in 1930 and was later enlarged. The courthouse was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 25 January 1989. It was listed on the National Register on 10 September 2014. It is included in "Buildings of Mississippi" (2020) (p.106, DR10), and it is pictured in "Musing through Towns in Mississippi" (1999) (p. 36). |
