This stretch of roadway, formerly part of U.S. Highway 45, now SR 681 between Birmingham Ridge Road and County Road 521, north of Tupelo, was built in 1914 as the first concrete-paved road in Mississippi. It was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 30 April 1993.
