The William H. and Marian D Mason House was built in 1926 for William Horatio Mason and his wife Marian D. Mason, and was renovated by Mrs. Mason after Mr. Mason’s death. The house, a Colonial Revival landmark in Laurel, is most significant as the residence of Mr. Mason, the inventor of Masonite hardboard, and, as founder of Masonite Corporation, an important figure in the revitalization of the southern lumber industry. The Mason House employs the very modern Masonite material to impart the look and feel of a Colonial mansion, demonstrating the material’s malleability into many shapes and forms that transformed the building material industry. This house was listed on the the National Register on 28 September 2017. |
