Designed by architect R.W. Naef, the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs Headquarters was built in 1935-36 under the auspices of the WPA. It is a particularly refined example of the mode of the Georgian Revival architectural style that was based on the Federal Style motifs and detailing, which is sometimes called the “Federal Revival” style. It is located on land leased from the State of Mississippi. This building was designated a Mississippi Landmark on 29 October 1986. It was listed on the National Register on 30 June 1988, from a nomination prepared by Mary W. “Mimi” Miller and J. Neil Varnell. It is included in "Jackson Landmarks" (1982) (pp. 124-125), "Jackson (Images of America)" (1998) (p. 66), and "Jackson's North State Street (Images of America)" (2009) (p. 118). |
